I think modeling has come a long way, what always makes things look fake is the texture mapping. Notice how all of these are flat rendered. Give them texture and the illusion falls apart.
Heh, pretty awesome, modern technology is already fast enough to do photorealism, (Ie: Fast enough GPU's and enough VRAM) yet even DX11 shaders are not complex enough to replicate real life.
